Relief Efforts in the Sertão
In the midst of the COVID-19 crises in one of the the most impoverished locations in all of Brazil, São José da Tapera, heavy rain flooded the nearby river and broke a dam. This dam broke twice within the span of two weeks by the beginning of April.
Local residents have been left with no running water, no electricity and their belongings ruined. The local hospital are temporarily inoperative after being submerged in water.
By May, Sao Jose da Tapera became the municipal with the second highest registered cases of COVID in all of Brazil.
DreamRoot local leaders have been working in this community for years. In partnership with local ministries, our leaders have been quick to mobilize resources and help to meet the critical needs of community members, including food, clothing, diapers and mattresses. The impact of their work in these communities have been immense. We have seen lives literally saved and transformed.
However, due to the lack of resources and infrastructure in this region, and the world's attention turned to the global COVID crises, the need for assistance remains high.
We are committed to this community and our local leaders. Considering partnering with DreamRoot today to directly reach those who are most in need within this region. To-date, we have been able to help 38 families with basic needs and food baskets.
