Local Impact Testimonial: Paying It Forward
One of many unforgettable moments during our exchange trips happened where local leaders Davi and his wife Ingrid (who lead the Sertão DreamRoot Training Center) joined us for a weekend at the beach. After driving 8.5 hours to Recife to be with us, David and Ingrid saw the beach for the first time in their life.
As they soaked in the sun and surf, Davi turned to Tony, our Global Programs Director, and asked, “How can I repay you for this?” Tony’s response was simple, “You don’t need to repay us. What you can do is make a way and provide opportunities like this for others.”
Well, Davi did just that...
Inspired by the experience, Davi went back to his leadership team at the Sertão DreamRoot Training Center and got to work on organizing a weekend outing for the children at their center.
The kids started out by attending and competing in a Jiu Jitsu competition. Then, to make it even more memorable, they spent the rest of the day at the mall.
It was a day full of new experiences where the kids rode an escalator, went to the moves, used an elevator, and even tried ketchup for the first time. These might seem like small things we often take for granted, but for these children, it was a day that broadened their horizons and sparked their imaginations.
New experiences like this help plant seeds for new ideas and creativity, showing what’s possible when we connect with others in a community.
When we share these moments together, we’re not just having fun—we’re opening minds and igniting a spark that changes lives.
